Young Designer Of The Year 2016
It is that time of the year again – the race to become Young Designer Of The Year 2016 is on. On Wednesday 7th September the iconic Dublin landmark, Bank of Ireland at College Green, will be transformed into a style haven as hundreds of the city’s best dressed turn out to watch a showcase of young Irish fashion talent.
As always, a shortlisted group of young designers will compete for the coveted title of Young Designer Of The Year. Judged by a panel of esteemed figures in the fashion industry, this year is set to be better than ever.
In 2015 the winner was Katie Donohoe from Griffith College. She was judged by Irish Independent’s Bairbre Power, esteemed photographer Barry McCall, TV3 Xpose producer Debbie O’ Donnell, Ashling Kilduff Owner of the Design Centre; Deirdre Devaney Ladies Fashion Director at Arnotts and Caroline Hanratty, Head of Personal and Private Shopping at Brown Thomas.
Her winning piece was inspired by the palette, texture and natural shapes of the Wicklow Mountains. The fabrics used to achieve this look were soft, sumptuous and full of texture. She wished to create a look that reflected the beauty of Wicklow and achieved an overall contemporary and clean silhouette. The embellishment used for the culottes was made of Perspex to reflect the shapes found on the Wicklow map, this Perspex reflects the light and gives the effect of dappled sunlight on the landscape.
Many well known guests enjoyed the fashion show, including top bloggers Anouska Proetta Brandon and Lauren Bejaoui, singer and model Michelle McGrath, stylists Irene O’Brien and Brian Conway, milliner Martha Lynn and more. Guests were treated to delicious cocktails courtesy of 37 Dawson Street whilst DJ Steven Cooper spun the decks until late.
The winner of the Young Designer Of The Year 2016 will have the amazing opportunity of having their collection shot by well known photographer Barry McCall. Additionally their collection will be on display in Powerscourt Townhouse Centre. The winner will also have their winning design featured in the Dublin Fashion Festival lookbook which is sent out to 75,000 people nationally via the Sunday Mail newspaper.
