Antonio Banderas for Selected Homme
This is the first ever clothing collection by Antonio Banderas in collaboration with Danish design label Selected Homme. We at Dublin Fashion had a sneek peek! The event took place in the Port House on South William Street.
Banderas has a new role as fashion student at the prestigious design school, Central Saint Martins and this is for the upcoming launch of his first ever venture into design with his clothing collaboration with Danish design label, SELECTED HOMME.
As an actor, I’ve been close to fashion and the idea of taking clothes to create a personality. Whether it’s in front of a camera or on stage, set in the past or something contemporary, clothes very much take part in the creation of an identity, and that’s something that I have always understood pretty clearly.
Greeted with delightful sangria and non alcoholic mojitos on arrival the Mediterranean theme was bestowed upon us from the get go. The collection was on display in a dimly lit room with Spanish music playing. The campaign film was being played with the man himself telling us a little bit about the collaboration. There were also delicious Spanish tapas to tuck into while admiring the pieces.
The collection mainly features a navy, indigo, grey and black palette and ranges from shirts and jeans to leather jackets and suit pieces. The items in the collection can be worn for an evening event or casually and this was the main aim behind the collaboration, to create clothes that people can truly live their lives in. One of the key pieces was the leather jacket with gold zip detailing which Banderas believes gives it a more masculine feel.
Sometimes I am obliged to walk a red carpet, which requires wearing a tuxedo. Sometimes I want something a bit edgier, yet comfortable – such as jeans and a leather jacket.
The collection still has a Scandinavian feel with minimalism and clean lines featured throughout. The subtle details such as the bird/flag symbol on each clothing item touches on the Spanish vibe recounting Banderas’ time spent in the Mediterranean. Overall the collection is classic quality day-to-day wear and will be available for consumer purchases come August 2016.
