Arnotts launch ‘The City is my Garden’
Arnotts has teamed up with the National Botanic Gardens and one of Ireland’s leading visual artists Maser, to proudly celebrate the beauty of Dublin city and to bring the outdoors indoors.
‘The City is My Garden’ concept will be rolled out from 4th May until mid-June and was devised by the Arnotts Head of Creative, Damien Byrne, with a view to encouraging people to slow down and appreciate both art and nature in a different environment.
‘The City is My Garden’ will be brought to life in the store, in the Henry Street windows and also in partnership with Maser, one of Ireland’s leading visual artists working in urban spaces. Maser will create a unique graffiti installation on the wall of number 1 Liffey Street, a key landmark when approaching Arnotts from the Ha’penny bridge. This will be Maser’s first outdoor representation of his latest “botanical” works. Through window installations, Arnotts will create an urban garden and educate customers on all aspects of the National Botanic Gardens of Ireland, including sustainability facts, whilst incorporating floral fashion elements to create an outstanding must-see visual display.
Damien Byrne, Arnotts Head of Creative said:
“When we were planning our Summer concept, I really wanted to try to capture some of the beauty of the city from it’s many beautiful parks and gardens to raw urban street art. There are so many amazing sites and experiences in Dublin city centre, so we wanted to showcase some of them within Arnotts to celebrate the Summer in the city. When we thought of an iconic Dublin garden, the nearby Botanic Gardens were a natural fit and we are delighted to work with Maser to bring the urban aspect to the garden. We hope customers will take time to enjoy discovering more about all things botanical through our infographics and educational installations.”
Maser said, “Coincidentally I’ve been doing some research for the past few months on botanics and their role and effect on us. Primarily out of interest but it has lead me to understand the importance of certain plants, in regards to our health, mental health, sleep, anxiety etc.
It has naturally brought me to the National Botanical Gardens Dublin to take photos of the plants I’ve found of interest.
From those sketches and photographs I’ve integrated their loose forms into my ‘hard lined’ art and applied the new compositions to my canvas and prints works. Now this will be my first mural of the new series of work. I’m grateful to be able to collaborate with Arnotts and The National Botanical gardens on this theme of new work and to have the opportunity to paint such a large scale mural in Dublin city centre, my home town.”
Thousands of informational leaflets will be printed with small complimentary envelopes of sunflower seeds for customers to enjoy a little flavour of The City is My Garden in their own homes.
Scrumdiddly’s ice cream will also make a return to the Arnotts Henry Street windows with an ice cream pop-up shop from 4th July and will embrace the ‘City is my Garden’ with a garden party from 4th-7th May.
