Spring/Summer 2019 is undoubtedly a vibrant and versatile season, especially at Brown Thomas Grafton Street.
This season brings a spectrum of newness with trends from glamour to pared back 1960’s styles. From the designer clothing to the excellent shoes and accessories, Brown Thomas really has something for everyone this season.
All Dolled Up, a trend which was included in many fashion shows this season, features over-the-top dresses. Displaying layers and frills in fluorescent colours, Richard Flynn presented a rather eccentric and glamorous collection. Dresses embellished with florals including red roses and pretty pastel dresses graced the runway too. Dolce & Gabanna Collection featured many printed gowns along with feathers and plaits at Valentino, and crystal embellished gowns at Leowe.
Prada and Miu Miu both took inspiration from the 1960’s while incorporating a modern attitude to the collections. The Miu Miu collection included printed baby doll dresses and double breasted swing coats while Prada featured 60’s surf girl chic with bicycle shorts, printed neopress tops and tie dye skirts.
Zimmerman displayed a Nomadic Cool vibe at their show. With scarf prints, patchwork and paisley designs contrasting with high necklines and long sleeves. Hippie modernism could be seen at Chloé with nude tones and scarf prints were paired with pleated dresses, light jackets and printed skirts.
The Down to Earth trend was brought to life at Jil Sander a designer new to Brown Thomas. A nature inspired collection filled with exquisite pieces. Including over sized coats in earthy tones, short cotton dresses in shell colours and silk skirts in soft blue tones. Earthy tones are back as seen at Dior and Leowe from cream and khaki to sand and tan.
The Utility trend is set to lead this season. Stella McCartney and Dries Van Noten featured lightweight silks and smooth cotton trouser variations along with cargo trousers, pared back tailored trousers and jackets with zips and hardware creating a business-casual vibe.

Trainers continue to be a dominant trend, with a shift towards chunky silhouettes and heavy tread soles enforcing the oversized aesthetic. Pastel colours have been incorporated into this trend feminizing the look. While heels and formal shapes have returned this season, the chunky sneaker trend continues to dominate this season.
